The SIRA committee has the responsibility of reviewing and setting the prices of emergency water per kL, hall hire fees and annual membership. Our review of pricing indicates no need to increase the prices of water and hall hire for the year ahead. However, the price of annual membership has been artificially low for some time, and is set to increase to $25 for the year beginning 1 July, 2018.
The increase is for the following reasons:
- SIRA has a number of costs associated with maintaining its member administration and database. This includes software, web hosting and accounting.
- SIRA also expends funds on some advocacy work in the course of its representations to Council, to the local member and to others. For example, in February, SIRA contributed $500 to a fund, along with other associations and individuals, to obtain legal clarification on the Pasadena development.
- SIRA does have retained funds, significantly from its management of the emergency water supply over several years. Those funds are held for future application to Emergency Water maintenance, upgrade or replacement. On that basis, any funds required for non-water administration or advocacy should come from membership fees, other income and from grants.
The SIRA Membership year goes from 1 July to 30 June. Please watch out for your renewal notice in June.
Thank you for your ongoing support of SIRA and the important work that it does on behalf of Island residents. It is much appreciated.
